VLC is an open-project, multi-platform media player. This one of the most popular media players around, and that is not left to chance. This application is simple, but oh so powerful. The main advantages over other media players is that it is highly portable, meaning that it can be installed and ready to play video almost instantly. It requires no additional codecs or applications. Another great thing about this application is that it is really stable, since it works in a closed environment. I have had Microsoft Media Player crash on way too many times, so I decided to give this one a try. It didn't let me down. All the basic features can be controlled from the little, main window. You can also use VideoLan's VLC media player to stream video over a high speed network or even transcode video on-the-fly, or to set-up a video on demand feature. All in all, this is an absolutely great media player that is portable, needs absolutely no external application or codecs to work, is powerful as few, and is the most stable out there. You can use this application on any operative system that you can think of.
